5th Graders At Bear Canyon Elementary Track The Weather

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4) - For one 5th grade class at Bear Canyon Elementary, students aren't just learning about the weather, they're also tracking it too.

By participating in the CBS4 Weather Watcher program teacher Deborah Charalton hopes her students will be able to relate the classroom work to their everyday lives.

"I think it's good because its a real world connection," says Charlton.

The students use weather instruments to take simple readings and record what is happening each day with an ultimate goal of seeing how pressure, temperature, wind and humidity all work together.

"I'm wanting them to make those connections, see the patterns and be able to help predict the weather," said Charlton.

In addition to learning valuable life experience the class also is helping forecasters in Colorado's Weather Center at CBS4 by providing important real-time weather information.
