5 NFL Week 2 JB Locks Against The Spread

by Jake Brown (@JBSportsRadio)

Alright, Week 1 is never easy to pick, especially against the spread. While I went 1-4 last week against the spread, three of the five teams did win the games outright. The Bears were stunned by the Bills. The Chiefs got hit hard with a couple injuries to their defense. The Jets and Steelers both won, but in closer games than anticipated. The Eagles looked to be on the verge of losing in the first half, but they woke up in the second half to beat the Jaguars. Let's take a look at my Week 2 locks against the spread.

1. Patriots (0-1) at Vikings (1-0) +3.5

The Patriots were stunned last week in the boiling hot temperatures in Miami. This team is scary good following a loss. They will be much better in cooler temperatures in Minnesota. Their offense shouldn't have as much trouble against the Vikings defense, who got a cakewalk facing a backup quarterback and then a third-string QB. No surprises here. Patriots win this one by double digits.

LOCK: PATRIOTS

2. Bears (0-1) at 49ers (1-0) -7.5

The Bears are an odd team, and Week 1 was a struggle for them against a Bills team that isn't expected to win more than five or six games this year, at best. The 49ers didn't even play amazingly, but were lucky enough to play a Cowboys team in shambles. The Bears will come out with a better effort this week in San Francisco. The 49ers will win this game, but by more than a touchdown? No way. Bears keep it close and beat the spread, but fall to 0-2.

LOCK: BEARS

3. Seahawks (1-0) at Chargers (1-0) +6.5

The defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks showed us all that they aren't satisfied with just one title. They came out in Week 1 against the Packers in front of their home crowd and absolutely dominated. The Chargers couldn't say the same. They held a lead in the fourth quarter, but let it slip away in Arizona. They will face the NFL's best in front of their home fans in Week 2. The Seahawks aren't the same team on the road as they are at home. The Chargers will keep this game close. There's no blowout in this one, but the Seahawks win by a field goal.

LOCK: CHARGERS

4. Saints (0-1) at Browns (0-1) +6.5

Some people predicted the Saints to win the NFC before the season. They didn't look bad by any means in Week 1, but the Falcons offense shred their defense apart. Brian Hoyer won't do that. Give credit to the Browns for an unbelievable comeback against the Steelers to make it a game, but the Saints are coming in mad. They aren't going to lose this game. Drew Brees should have a field day in Cleveland as they win by at least a touchdown.

LOCK: SAINTS

5. Falcons (1-0) at Bengals (1-0) -5.5

The Falcons battled so many injuries last season. They're out to prove themselves in 2014. Matt Ryan had the best performance of any QB in the league last week. He faces a touch task against a Bengals defense playing in Cincinnati. The Bengals topped the Ravens in their opener, but A.J. Green is questionable. He won't be 100%. This is a tough matchup for the Bengals. With 5.5 points to work with here, the Falcons should keep it close on the road. They really could be a dark horse to make the playoffs this season with their offense leading the way. The Bengals should win, but it could come down to a last-second field goal.

LOCK: FALCONS
