5-Hour Wait Prediction Scares Off Boaters At Cherry Creek Reservoir

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Cherry Creek State Park was expecting a busy day for boaters on Saturday, but it turns out that not a lot of people showed up.

Parts of Chatfield Reservoir are closed due to flooding and Cherry Creek Reservoir has only one boat ramp open. So rangers anticipated delays of up to 5 hours to get in the water. But it seems boaters heeded the warnings and decided to go somewhere else.

"We got up at 4:30. I was on C-470 before the sun was up," boater Zack Loffert said. "There was no line. I mean we were on the water in about 10 minutes."

"There were not as many people here as there was last weekend," boater Kristina Steinberger said. "They scared people away with the 4 to 5 hour wait."

The park did get busier in the afternoon but it wasn't as bad as expected.
