5 Hour Standoff Ends Peacefully In Aurora

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A barricaded suspect kept police at bay for five hours on Friday and forced one school to take additional security precautions.

A man at 6868 S. Sicily Court in Aurora fired shots outside an apartment just before 9 a.m. on Friday.

Police responded and Grandview High School was placed on a secure perimeter as a precaution. The school was not involved and located several blocks from the situation. The alert at Grandview was lifted less than two hours later.

The bomb squad responded in addition to a negotiator from Greenwood Village Police.

The standoff started after officers said the man fired two shots outside and then retreated into an apartment where he continued shooting. No hostages were involved.

Just after 2 p.m. the man was arrested. His name has not been released.

No one was injured in the incident.
