ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4)- Concerned onlookers called Englewood police to report four teenagers who were walking on a frozen lake at Centennial Park on Friday morning.

"Upon arrival the Englewood police officer did find those individuals about 50 to 75 yards off land and indicated they should proceed over to that island to get them safe as quickly as possible," said Melissa Taylor with Denver Fire Department.

The Ice and Water rescue team from Denver Fire responded to the park about 11 a.m. Friday near Federal Boulevard and Union where crews inflated a boat they used to shuttle the teens across the ice and back to land.

"We had two firefighters suited up go out onto the ice on a Gumby boat," said Taylor.

"They were on their game," Eric Whitaker said about firefighters as he watched the rescue. "They had the little boat to go across the ice. A couple of them walked across very carefully with their little tool and got the four gentlemen off."

The teens have been issued park citations and will have to appear in court.

"We do not want people on the ice right now. It is not safe," said Taylor. "These individuals are very lucky to be safe today."
