3rd Candidate Enters Senate Race In Colorado

GLENDALE, Colo. (CBS4)- A third candidate has entered Colorado's already heated Senate race-- Dr. Steve Shogan, an Independent candidate.

A new poll from Quinnipiac University shows Democratic incumbent Mark Udall has the support of 45 percent of voters, compared with Republican challenger Cory Gardner's 44 percent. That's well within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.

Shogan is a neurosurgeon and also has a law degree from the University of Denver.

Shogan said running as an Independent gives him an advantage over other candidates.

"An Independent can serve the interest of the people who have voted for him to put him into office instead of the political parties," said Shogan. "And an Independent would forge a separate path to take on some of the crucial issues which we need to confront."

Shogan said he has new ideas for health care, reducing the national debt and creating jobs.
