3 Women Become The First Ever To Compete In The Big Chili Mountain Firefighter Challenge

EVERGREEN, Colo. (CBS4) - For the first time in over a decade of competitions, female firefighters were allowed to compete in the Big Chili Mountain Firefighter Challenge, a grueling race that tests the firefighter's skill, strength and endurance.

According to Michael Davis with the Elk Creek Fire Protection District, firefighters Bethany Urban from Elk Creek Fire, Page Maslow from Evergreen Fire, and Emily Cypher, also from Elk Creek Fire were the first women to compete in the race.

The ladies times were as follows: Maslow - 2:54, Urban - 2:23, and Cypher won with the time of 2:18.

The Big Chili Cook-Off is an annual event held to raise money in support of mountain area volunteer fire districts.
