3 Injured In Shooting In Commerce City

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - Gunfire in a Commerce City neighborhood sent three people to the hospital early Sunday morning.

Police were called out to East 60th Avenue near Kearney Street shortly before 5 a.m. Officers found one man who had been shot lying in the street. Neighbors told CBS4 they heard people outside screaming and fighting before several gunshots were fired.

"They found a party lying in the street who had been shot what they believe multiple times," Charlie Schoepflin with the Commerce City Police Department said. "He was taken, transported by ambulance to Denver Health Medical."

One block over police discovered another man shot inside of a home. A third shooting victim had already gone to the hospital.

"This is surprising. This is the first time this has happened since I've been here," area resident Mel Zoss said.

Zoss awoke to a knock at his door.

"It was the police officer asking questions, and then I saw all of the vehicles out here," Zoss said. "They had the whole street blocked off."

Schoepflin said investigators are working to piece together the violent chain of events.

"It's unknown if it's gang-related … it's preliminary at this time, and so I'm not quite sure. It's still under investigation," he said.

Police say all three gunshot victims are being treated for their injuries, but there is no word on their conditions.

Police have not made an arrest.
