2 Utah Men Rescued After Plane Crash In Western Colorado
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities in Colorado say crews have rescued two Utah men whose small aircraft crashed in a remote area near Grand Junction.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says the two were traveling from Telluride, Colorado to Spanish Fork, Utah when their gyroplane crashed near the border about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Heather Benjamin says the pilot, 53-year-old pilot Mike Burton of Pleasant Grove, was suffering from back pain and flown to a hospital.
The passenger, 30-year-old Josh Humphries of Payson, was taken to an ambulance on a snowmobile.
Authorities say rescue crews used night vision equipment and snowmobiles to reach the steep site near Glade Park and got the men out about six hours after the helicopter-like aircraft went down.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
