2 People Killed In Fiery Plane Crash Identified

PALMER LAKE, Colo. (CBS4) — The victims killed in a fiery plane crash last week have been identified. Daniel Murray of Longmont and Jeff Caplitz of Lafayette were killed when it crashed in El Paso County on March 2.

The crash happened near Palmer Lake, killing both Murray, 76, and Caplitz, 60. They were riding in Murray's Curtiss Wright Travel Air 4000, a 1928-era plane.

Witnesses said they heard a loud crash and saw the plane wreckage in flames near some train tracks. The fire spread to surrounding grass and burned about a quarter acre in size near homes before fire crews got it under control.

Witnesses said it looked like pilot had lost control. Investigators have not made a determination on what caused the crash.
