2 Children Injured When SUV Crashes Into Home

DENVER (CBS4)- Two juveniles were rushed to the hospital when an SUV crashed into their home Thursday afternoon. That home is unlivable because of the damage.

The SUV veered off Steele Street just about 4:20 p.m., smashed into a fence and crashed into the front of a home at 4555 Steele.

The driver of the SUV tried to run away but was captured by witnesses.

"I heard the crash and came hobbling out with my walker," said neighbor Jack Thomas. "I saw a guy running and then 'Boom!' This one guy tackled him."

Firefighters said two juveniles inside the front bedroom were hurt. A 9-year-old boy and his 12-year-old sister were rushed to Denver Health with minor injuries. Their mother and sister, who were with them inside, were not hurt.

"The car pushed the bed all the way to the wall so he was lucky. He was lucky because he was in the bed," said the victims' uncle Arturo Venegas.

The mother of the SUV's driver is expressing her apologizes to the children who were hurt and the family who lives in the home.

"I was concerned about the family, for the children in that house," said the suspect's mother Monique Humes. "I feel hurt... I feel angry at my son."

The home is unlivable because of the extensive damage.

What caused the driver of the SUV to crash into the home is being investigated.
