2 Employees Injured In Fire At Chemical Manufacturing Facility

MEAD, Colo. (CBS4) - Two employees were injured when a chemical manufacturing facility in Mead caught fire early Tuesday morning.

The call came in from Boulder Scientific at 12:21 a.m., and several fire trucks along with 35 firefighters from the station across the street were able to put the fire out.

Two employees of the facility were injured in the fire and transported to the hospital for minor burns.

A chemical called lithium salts is responsible for the fire, a powder substance that expands with water. There were 150 lbs of lithium salts being stored at Boulder Scientific. It is not harmful on its own and officials say there was never any danger to the public.

There is no damage to the building. Authorities are investigating how the fire started.
