2 Denver Officers Recognized With The 'Citizens Appreciate Police' Award

DENVER (CBS4) - The community honored two Denver police officers on Wednesday.

Sgt. Phil Epple and Officer Bennie Gallardo received the Citizens Appreciate Police (CAP) award for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Epple was recognized for his kindness when he helped replace and plant a stolen tree.

Gallardo helped an older passenger who was stuck at Denver International Airport.

"It's nice to be recognized by individuals for the good things that we do because I think there's far more positive police work out there than there is negative," Epple said.

The "CAP" award began in 1978. More than 200 officers have been honored since.
