2 Children Safe After Suspect Surrenders To SWAT In Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - A man surrendered to Lakewood police early Wednesday morning after barricading himself inside a home with his wife and two children.

Kristopher Hayman was taken into custody after an hours-long standoff with SWAT officers. Shortly before 6 a.m., they forced their way in and Hayman surrendered.

The toddler was not hurt.

Police said a domestic call from the man's wife late Tuesday prompted the incident in the 10000 block of west Jewell Avenue.

According to police, Hayman's wife told them he assaulted her and wouldn't let her leave with their children. She also said he threatened a shootout if she called police. Police said there were guns in the home.

She escaped with one child before Hayman holed himself in their apartment with their 2-year-old child.

Hayman, 29, is in the Jefferson County Jail.
