2 Castle Rock Deaths Ruled A Murder-Suicide

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say two people whose bodies were found in a Castle Rock home died as a result of a murder-suicide.

The Douglas County Coroner's Office has ruled 23-year-old Kacey Kay Heberlein's death a homicide and 26-year-old Donald Christopher Bankert's death a suicide. Heberlein suffered a single gunshot wound.

Police were called to the home Saturday night to conduct a welfare check after Heberlein's family became concerned when she missed a meeting with a family member that afternoon. A second call for a welfare check came in around midnight.

A regional SWAT team was called and found the bodies when it entered the home at about 8:15 a.m. Sunday. Investigators have not said why the SWAT team was called.
