Father Who Attacked Estranged Wife, Kidnapped Son Sentenced To 36 Years

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - The father of a Longmont boy who attacked his estranged wife with pepper spray, kidnapped his son and took him across the border into Canada has been sentenced to 36 years in prison.

Monty Turner, 52, agreed to a plea deal to second-degree kidnapping, felony menacing, using a stun gun and violation of custody for the prison sentence.

Investigators say Turner attacked his wife May 25, 2013, and fled to Canada with their 3-year-old son. The father and son were found the following day at a motor lodge in Manitoba, Canada.

Turner did not have custody of the boy.

Monty Turner had been prohibited by court order from making contact with Luke or his mom Brandy prior to the May 2013 crime. Brandy Turner told police she saw her husband in the backyard that morning when she stepped outside to smoke a cigarette.

Brandy Turner told police she saw her husband in the backyard that morning, when she stepped outside to smoke a cigarette. She said she went inside, locked the door and tried to call 911, but Monty Turner forced his way in.

She said pepper spray was shot in her face and she felt an electric shock, which she believes was from a stun gun.

Soon after, Brandy Turner said she went into another room to attempt to call 911 again, and she saw Monty Turner leaving on a bicycle with Luke.

Turner's father, Ronald Turner, was sentenced in June to 27 years in prison for helping with the kidnapping.
