10 Denver Police Officers Honored For Going Above And Beyond

DENVER (CBS4)- Ten police officers in Denver were honored on Wednesday for going above and beyond the call of duty.

The officers received the Citizens Appreciate Police award. Some helped stranded families find shelter, food or gas while others helped a senior citizen, who is also a veteran, with yard work.

"Well this was an opportunity for us. When I talked to Fred and I learned he was a veteran it also touched my heart not because he was a Marine, but because I'm an Army veteran and I know Brett's an Air Force veteran and it was an opportunity to really give back to someone who was in need," said Denver Police Officer Benjamin Austin.

More than 200 Denver police officers have received the CAP award.

The CAP was formed in 1978 by Denver Mayor Bill McNichols and District Attorney Dale Tooley to recognize police officers who serve the public. Since then, more than 200 officers have received the CAP award.
