1 Of 2 Missing Hikers Found In Maroon Bells Area

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Searchers have found one of two hikers missing in the Maroon Bells area.

Two men from Vail, both in their 30s, were reported missing Wednesday night and one was found Friday morning.

Authorities say he is injured and searchers are working to come up with a way to evacuate him as the search for the second man continues.

The Aspen Daily News reports that one of the men sent a photo from the top of one of the 14,000-foot-plus peaks near Aspen to his fiancee around 1 p.m. Wednesday and failed to contact her later as expected.

Mountain Rescue Aspen volunteers searched for the hikers Thursday on foot but snow prevented a search from the air.
