1 Man Killed, Another Injured In Explosion East Of Erie

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4/AP) - One man was killed and another was injured in an explosion east of Erie that investigators believe was caused by a welding torch.

The blast was reported at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at a rural business park about five miles east of Erie near Weld County Road 6 and Weld County Road 11.

Weld County Sheriff's Deputy Sean Standridge says investigators believe the victim who was killed -- a 26-year-old Brighton man -- was welding near a vacuum tank trailer used to haul oil from local well sites. It's believed the spark from the torch ignited residual oil inside or outside of the tank.

Investigators have not released the victims' names or the condition of the man who was injured.
