Police Seek Suspect In Zion Beating

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are looking for a person who beat and seriously injured a Missouri woman Monday night in north suburban Zion.

Officers were called at 9:48 p.m. about a battery near 27th Street and Gabriel Avenue, according to a statement from Zion police. They arrived to find the 46-year-old woman with severe head trauma.

The suspect had approached the woman on the sidewalk while she was sitting outside in the 1900 block of 27th and struck her in the head with an unknown object, police said. She was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing dark clothing, according to police. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Zion Police Department at (847) 872-8000 or Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222.
