Your Chicago: Skating Ribbon At Maggie Daley Park

(CBS) -- At this time of year, Chicagoans may be looking for something fun to do.

Well, rejoice, there is something. It's new, it is innovative, unusual, and, so far, a big hit.

CBS 2's Rob Johnson reports.

It's not an ice rink. It's a 400-meter skating ribbon that opened in December at Maggie Daley Park near the lakefront.

"The response been tremendous," Michael Kelly, CEO of the Chicago Park District, says.

Aside from the unique, modern design, the ribbon features a rarity in skating: an incline and a decline.

So far, the early reviews are very good.

"It's now a four-season park. It's not just about the spring or summer. It's January, and we are here and we're not the only ones out here," Kelly says.
