Your Chicago: Anixter Center

(CBS) -- Hundreds gathered this week to raise money for the Anixter Center.

Located on the North Side, it's part learning, part rehabilitation and part work center, CBS 2's Rob Johnson reports.

Every day at the Anixter Center, 2032 North Clybourn, 500 children and adults with disabilities come for a variety of reasons.

Some, like Raquel Ruiz, rebuild their lives after a traumatic brain injury.

Then there are people like Carlos Farmer, mainstays in the work center. He serves as quality control for Comcast remote controls, inspecting and keeping the good ones that can be reused. Comcast has been providing this work for a decade now.

Anixter center has been around 95 years and is led by its president, Kevin Limbeck, serving over 7,000 people in Chicago annually, even providing community housing for 300.

The Anixter Center hopes to completely renovate its main facility. Click here to learn more.
