1 Dead, 6 Injured After Vehicle Hit By CTA Yellow Line Train, Service Suspended

(CBS) -- A 62-year-old Skokie woman was killed and six other people were injured after a vehicle was struck by a CTA Yellow Line train Monday morning, authorities said.
Police responded to the accident around 10:20 a.m. after the vehicle was hit by the train at the crossing in the 7700 block of East Prairie Road in Skokie.
"I heard a loud crash, and I turned around and the train was smoking," witness Ilonka Ulrich said.
A passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at Skokie Hospital, police said. She was identified Blandina Hermez of Skokie.
The vehicle's driver was rushed to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. From the train, five passengers with injuries also were transported.
Parvez Adil's daughter was one of the injured train passengers. She told paramedics she was suffering from back pain and couldn't feel her right foot.
"She was very much crying. She was very much afraid," the parent says.
The CTA suspended service on the Yellow Line. It was restored by 5 p.m.
The North Regional Major Crime Task Force Major Crash Assistance Team and Skokie Police are investigating the crash.
