Wrong-Way Driver Charged With DUI After Skyway Crash

(STMW) -- A wrong-way driver who collided with a semi early Thursday on the Chicago Skyway is facing DUI charges.

Tywanna Peate, 27, was charged with a DUI and was cited for driving the wrong way, failure to produce a driver's license and not having insurance, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

Peate was driving in a black Infinity northbound in the southbound lanes of the Skyway when her vehicle collided with the semi truck about 1:30 a.m. Thursday near 76th Street, police said.

The truck spilled diesel fuel, causing a HazMat situation that temporarily closed all southbound lanes, police said. The expressway was reopened about 2:55 a.m.

Both the woman and driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Court information for Peate was not immediately available.
