Worker Seriously Injured After Falling Into Water Basin At Filtration Plant

(STMW) -- A Chicago Department of Water Management worker was seriously injured when he fell into a water basin at a South Shore filtration plant on Monday afternoon.

About 1:10 p.m., the man, thought to be in his 50s, fell about 15 feet into the basin at the South District Filtration Plant, 3300 E. Cheltenham, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.

The man was not submerged in the water, and he was alert when crews rescued him about 40 minutes later, Langford said. He was taken to Nothwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.
