Woman Sues Landlord After Toddler Hurt In Fall From Window

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An East Garfield Park woman has sued the owner of the apartment building where she lives, after her son fell from a second-story window last year.

Shanda Ross said her 2-year-old son placed his hands on the screen of an open window on Oct. 3, 2014, and the screen gave way, causing her son to fall 17 feet to the sidewalk below, on the 3300 block of West Warren Boulevard.

The suit alleges the screen was damaged for a long time before the fall, and Ross claimed she asked the landlord to fix it, but he refused.

The two-count negligence lawsuit seeks $100,000 in damages.
