Woman Seriously Injured In Kane County Crash

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman was airlifted to the hospital Friday morning, after her minivan collided with a garbage truck in unincorporated Kane County near Sugar Grove.

Kane County Sheriff's police said the woman was driving east on U.S. Route 30 around 7:30 a.m., about a mile west of Dugan Road, when her 2006 Chevrolet Uplander crossed into the westbound lane.

Police said a Waste Management garbage truck heading west tried to avoid a head-on collision, and veered into the eastbound lane, but the two vehicles still collided, causing the minivan to roll over.

The woman driving the minivan was trapped inside the vehicle. After emergency crews got her out, she was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, with serious injuries, according to police.

The garbage truck driver suffered minor injuries, and was taken to Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora for treatment.

The cause of the crash was under investigation. No traffic citations had been issued as of 10:30 a.m.
