Woman Killed In Pilsen Crash, Occupants In Other Car Flee

(CBS) -- Chicago Police were searching for two men who fled the scene after their car was involved in a crash that killed a 59-year-old woman about a block away from her home in Pilsen.

The victim was driving north on Morgan Street around 8:20 p.m. Monday, when her vehicle was T-boned by a Ford Mustang that was headed east on 16th Street, police said.

She had to be extricated from her car, and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where she was pronounced dead about an hour later. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said the woman has been identified as Linda Forbes, of the 1000 block of West 16th Street.

Police said two men in the Mustang fled the scene after the crash.

Forbes was a longtime resident at the nearby Barbara Jean Wright Courts apartment complex. She lived there with her son. The property managers described her as sweet and quiet.

"She was a really good tenant," said property manager Lorell White. "When she comes in, she's very calm, quiet."

Property manager Chyla Howard said she last spoke to Forbes on Friday.

"It's sad," she said. "The things that are going around in the city of Chicago … that's sad more, because you could have did something to help her; called 911, or something.

The license plate on the Mustang was intact after the crash, but police said no one was in custody Tuesday morning. It was unclear if the car might have been stolen. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
