Mother Killed In Morgan Park

(CBS/STMW) -- A 37-year-old woman who died after she was shot Friday evening in the Morgan Park neighborhood has been identified.

Summer Moore heard gunfire while sitting in a front yard about 7:50 p.m. in the 11400 block of South Aberdeen Street, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

She began to run but was struck in the chest, police said.

Moore, of the 3100 block of West Marquette Road, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 8:38 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

She had just sent her cousin off to prom and was at her aunt's house planning a Mother's Day barbecue when shots rang out.

Relatives say her three kids are devastated.

"It hurts very bad. It is a broken heart because Summer was a happy person," said Aretha Cummings, the victim's aunt.

Police say Summer was the innocent victim of random gun violence.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
