Woman Killed In House Fire In Berwyn

BERWYN, Ill. (STMW) -- A 64-year-old woman died in a house fire Tuesday morning in west suburban Berwyn.

A passerby saw flames coming from the front window of the home in the 2400 block of South Scoville Avenue a few minutes after 7 a.m. and called 911, Berwyn Fire Chief Denis O'Halloran said.

Firefighters arrived and found heavy fire in the living room, O'Halloran said. During a search of the one-and-a-half story bungalow, a woman was found.

Karen Lindsey was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:36 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. Though her home address was not released, O'Halloran said he believes she was a resident of the home. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

The fire was extinguished about 8 a.m., O'Halloran said. No one else was in the home at the time, and there were no other injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
