Woman Killed In Fairdale Tornado Buried Next To Husband In Arlington National Cemetery

(CBS) -- A funeral was held today at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia for one of the two women killed in the Fairdale Tornado in April.

69-year-old Jackie Klosa was buried next to her husband, Arthur, who served in Korea and Vietnam and was in the Secret Service and died in 2004.

Les Bellah, the mayor of nearby Kirkland, tells WBBM, "Jackie was always so proud of Art, (her husband) Jackie was a lover of veterans visited our Veterans Memorial every day."

The Federal Emergency Management Agency was helping to defer travel costs to Arlington for Klosa's family.

Mayor Bellah says, "There's probably nobody in the world more deserving than Jackie."

And while area residents wish she were buried closer, Bellah says, "They certainly understand it and they backed and they're absolutely proud to have known her and her choices."

Klosa and her friend, Geraldine Schultz were both killed in the April tornado.

"There has been some talk," Mayor Bellah says, of building a memorial for the two victims because, "They were such a part of that community and they are very, very, missed."

As for the Fairdale-Kirkland area about 85 miles northwest of Chicago, Mayor Bellah says the recovery continues.

"It's remarkable, the people have gone from a victim mode to a survivor mode. There are eight or nine building permits that have been issued, houses have gone up, already. They'll never get over this but it is getting behind them a little bit."
