Woman Killed By FedEx Semi On Kennedy Expressway

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman was fatally struck by a FedEx semi on the outbound Kennedy Expressway Wednesday night.

About 11:35 p.m., a woman ran out onto the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) at Addison Street and was struck by a FedEx truck, according to Illinois State Police Sgt. Henry Spight.

Spight said authorities did not know why she ran out into the road.

The woman, a 25-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:03 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Her name was not being released early Thursday.

Though some northbound lanes were closed early Thursday, an ISP spokesman said all lanes had reopened as of 4:15 a.m.

The driver has not been cited or charged, ISP said Thursday morning.

"We can confirm a FedEx Custom Critical vehicle was involved in an accident this morning in which a pedestrian was fatally injured," Bonnie Kourvelas, a spokesman for FedEx, said Thursday morning.

"Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with her family and friends. We are cooperating fully with local law enforcement in their investigation."
