Woman Killed After Car Flies Off Overpass In Palatine

PALATINE (STMW) -- An Elgin woman was killed Monday night after her car went over an overpass and landed on U.S. Route 14 in northwest suburban Palatine.

The woman was driving about 9:30 p.m. southbound on Illinois Route 53--which travels above U.S. Route 14--when the car went beyond an overpass barrier wall and landed on its roof on Rt. 14, Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Bart Lamb said.

Julie Allard, 34, of the 700 block of Ripple Brook Court in Elgin, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:12 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Allard was the only person in the car, state police said, and no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known as Illinois State Police investigates.
