Woman In Shaken Baby Case Free After Nearly Decade In Prison

(CBS) -- The Hickory Hills day care worker who's spent almost a decade in prison after being convicted of shaking a baby to death is now free.

The Illinois Department of Corrections says Jennifer Del Prete walked out of the Logan Correctional Center about 4:30 in the afternoon.

A judge signed the order for her release - and Del Prete's daughter arrived at the prison to take her away.

Del Prete was convicted in a bench trial of the 2003 death of a 14-month-old.

Last week a judge ruled that because of "substantial" evidence that points to Del Prete's innocence, she should be freed.

Jennifer Del Prete told WBBM last week that she might have to go through another trial - but she said, "I don't think I will see inside these (prison) gates again."
