Woman Hurt During Carjacking

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 20-year-old woman was seriously injured during a carjacking Saturday morning in the South Loop.

Officers responded at 11:53 a.m. to a call of a robbery in the 1500 block of South State and found the injured woman, Edith Garcia, according to Chicago Police. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a broken leg, a skull fracture and a rib fracture.

CBS 2's Audrina Bigos spoke with Garcia.

"I got onto the front bumper and then tried to hold on and tell him, 'hey get off, it's my car.' I tried to scare him," she said. "He tried to accelerate and then stop really fast so that I would fall. That happened a couple times until it finally worked."

Garcia said she was waiting to find out if she'll need surgery.

No one was in custody as Area North detectives conducted a vehicular hijacking investigation.
