Woman Fatally Struck By Vehicle In Skokie

(STMW) -- A woman was fatally struck by a vehicle Thursday evening in north suburban Skokie, police said.

Rescue crews responded to a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle about 5:50 p.m. in the 5500 block of West Touhy Avenue, said Skokie Police Sgt. Tim Gramins.

The woman, whose exact age was not immediately known, was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where she later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not confirm the fatality.

It was not immediately known whether the driver, who stayed at the scene of the crash, would be cited or charged, Gramins said.

Touhy is closed to traffic in both directions between Niles Center Road and Central Avenue while Skokie police and the North Regional Major Crime Task Force Major Crash Assistance Team investigate. Gramins said the road would likely reopen about 11:45 p.m.
