Woman Dies Three Weeks After Being Hit By Cab

(STMW) --- A south suburban woman died about three weeks after she was hit by a cab in the Old Town neighborhood on the North Side.

Several witnesses told officers they saw a woman run out in to traffic in the 1400 block of North LaSalle at 2:05 a.m. on Aug. 30th, police said. A cab heading north struck the woman, who was later identified as 26-year-old Emily Fredbloom, authorities said.

She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead Friday at 4:29 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Fredbloom, of the 18000 block of Whitman Lane in Lansing, died from complications that arose from the injuries she suffered in the crash, according to an autopsy performed Sunday. Her death was ruled an accident.

The 51-year-old man driving the cab was cited for failure to use due care with a pedestrian in the roadway and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, police said.
