Woman Dies After Head-On Crash In Humboldt Park

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman died Sunday morning after her vehicle was involved in a head-on crash in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Bessie English, 63, was driving west in a 1993 Ford Escort in the 2700 block of West Division Street about 7:50 a.m. when her vehicle crashed head-on into another vehicle traveling east, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Two people that were in the other vehicle ran away after the crash, police said.

English, of the 900 block of North Waller, was taken to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 9:22 a.m., the medical examiner's office said.

Police said English may have suffered cardiac arrest during the crash. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.
