Woman Dead Following Woodstock Fire

(STMW) -- An elderly woman died and a Woodstock home was destroyed after a residential fire Thursday evening, fire authorities said.

About 7:30 p.m., the Woodstock Fire Rescue District responded to a fire at a one-and-a-half story home in the 500 block of East Kimball Avenue in northwest suburban Woodstock. Authorities say the blaze had been extinguished as of 10 p.m. Thursday.

An elderly woman was found dead at the home, authorities said. The McHenry County Coroner could not be immediately reached to confirm the death.

The Woodstock Fire Rescue District is investigating.

Fire officials tell CBS 2 their efforts to fight the fire may have been hampered by snow that covered hydrants.
