Woman Critical After Being Ejected From Snowmobile: Lake County Sheriff

(STMW) -- A woman was critically injured when she crashed her snowmobile Wednesday night in northwest suburban Port Barrington.

Officers responding to a call of a crash with injuries about 9:35 p.m. in the 2600 block of Wisteria Court in Port Barrington found a 33-year-old woman lying on the ground unconscious, according to a statement issued Thursday by the Lake County sheriff's office.

The woman, the driver and only occupant of a snowmobile, was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where she was listed in critical condition, the sheriff's office said.

Police determined the woman took the snowmobile for a short ride, during which she accelerated rapidly, causing the front skis to lift off the ground, the sheriff's office said. She was ejected, struck her head on the pavement, and the snowmobile overturned.

Police said alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
