Woman Charged With Murder For South Loop Stabbing

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman has been charged with stabbing a man to death during a domestic fight Wednesday night in the South Loop.

Caress T. Shumaker, 29, is accused of stabbing 27-year-old Ronald Thomas in the chest at 8:40 p.m. during an argument in his apartment in the 2100 block of South Michigan Avenue, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Thomas was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said. An autopsy Thursday ruled his death a homicide.

Shumaker, who also lives in the 2100 block of South Michigan, has been charged with first-degree murder for the stabbing, police said. Police initially said she was Thomas' girlfriend or wife.

She was expected to appear in bond court Friday.
