Woman carjacked at gunpoint by group of men on North Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman sitting in a Maserati car has become another victim of armed carjacking in Chicago.

It happened late Saturday night near Lincoln and Cullom in the city's North Center neighborhood, and neighbors say this is becoming the new normal.

"Appalling. I think that's really wrong," said Daniel Lopez, who has lived in the neighborhood for several years.

He said he is keeping his head on a swivel after a recent armed carjacking.

"I'm looking right. I'm looking left. When I get in my car, windows up, all doors locked," he said.

According to the Chicago Police Department just before midnight in the 2100 block of West Cullom Avenue, a woman was sitting in the driver's seat of a parked Maserati when she was approached by four or five men. Two of them were armed with handguns. They ordered her out of the car, and she complied.

Neighbors waking up to the news said they are concerned.

"It is distressing, especially since I know people in the neighborhood. And I know they know, too," said Seth Ramon.

Two of the carjackers got in her car and took off. The remaining offenders fled in a black SUV.

Neighborhood surveillance video shows a dark SUV leaving the area just before midnight. Moments later, police can be seen canvassing the area with the victim.

The victim was not injured.

Neighbors say they're taking extra safety measures.

"Everybody be aware of your surroundings. You cannot have your head buried in a phone. Now really, you shouldn't be idling in a car, in front of a leave. Don't leave your cell phone out, be smart," Ramon said.

"I hope they catch these guys," said Lopez.

No one is in custody, and the Maserati has not been recovered.
