Woman Buying Lottery Tickets Injured After Pickup Slams Into Store

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman buying lottery tickets at a South Side convenience store was injured when a pickup truck careened into the building.

The crash took place around 2:30 p.m. at the corner of 71st Street and King Drive and involved at least two other vehicles.

The 61-year-old woman was pinned by the pickup. In store surveillance video, the customer hears a traffic accident outside and goes to look. Suddenly a pickup truck crashes through the storefront and she's trapped against the wall by the lottery dispenser.

The store manager dialed 9-1-1.

"I was just very shocked. I'd never seen anything in person like this in my experience," store manager Mo Zyyad says.

The woman was taken out by paramedics using a backboard, then taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where she was in fair condition.

Four others, including two children, were hurt in the sedan-vs.-truck crash on the street. The mishap sent that pickup truck through the front of the store.

The driver of the pickup was not hurt and was given several tickets ranging from failing to produce a driver's license to not having insurance.
