Woman, 71, Found Dead With Numerous Dog Bites

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 71-year-old woman was found dead Tuesday in the unincorporated Antioch Township home she shared with her 23-year-old grandson and two dogs.

The woman bore numerous dog bites when found about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in her bedroom.

Her grandson discovered her when he returned from work to the home, at 26064 W. Channel Ave.

Lake County Sheriff spokesman Christopher Covelli said the grandson told police that she had been alive when he left for work Tuesday morning.

Covelli said an autopsy would be needed to determine whether the dog bites caused her death, or occurred after she died.

One of the dogs was in the house when found; the other was found wandering in the neighborhood.

Both were put in the care of Lake County Animal Control.

Covelli said he did not know whether Animal Control had been called to the home in the past, or of there were any records of problems with the dogs.
