Within Minutes, Several People Shot -- Two Fatally -- Across Chicago

(CBS) – Eight people were shot – two of them fatally – within the span of 10 minutes in three separate incidents across Chicago, police said.

Two people died after a shooting in West Garfield Park around 4 p.m. near Wilcox and Kostner, about a block from Hefferan Elementary School.

Police say four armed people in a white van opened fire shortly before classes were dismissed at the school. It went on lockdown.

The fatally injured victims were a 23-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, who were pronounced dead at hospitals. Another individual was shot in the leg but was expected to survive, police said.

Around the time of that shooting, four people were shot near 68th and Throop in the Englewood neighborhood. Information was not available about the extent of injuries.

Also, someone was shot at 79th and Kenneth around 4:10 p.m. That gunshot victim was in stable condition, police said.

At 4:48 p.m. , a 31-year-old man was shot at 55th and Hoyne and transported to Mt. Sinai in critical condition.
