With Arbor Day Approaching, Morton Arboretum President Emphasizes Importance Of Trees To Urban Areas
(CBS) -- With Arbor Day less than a week away, the head of the Morton Arboretum is emphasizing how much people in urban areas like this depend on trees and even forests, reports WBBM's Craig Dellimore.
Arbor Day is Friday, and as you might imagine, it's a pretty big deal at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle.
The Arboretum's president and CEO Gerard Donnelly says there'll be activities for adults and children all week, and lots to learn. The Arboretum celebrates trees and researches them. Botanist Donnelly says people in urban areas like this need trees to balance the environment with their shade, among other things. But they are also subject to pollution and other challenges of the urban environment, which is why he says trees need champions to care for and protect them. That's why they do so much public education to encourage you to help.
The Morton Arboretum is a 1,700-acre botanical garden dedicated to trees and shrubs and educating people about how much we need them.
