Wisconsin Wrestling Coach Alleges Retaliation For Reporting Rape Allegation
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The former head wrestling coach at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has sued the school, claiming he was fired for reporting a sexual assault to police.
Tim Fader said he was fired for violating university policy by reporting the alleged sexual assault by one of his recruits to police before notifying the university.
His attorney, Stan Davis, said Fader was told about the alleged assault on Good Friday in 2014, when university officials were not available to report it to.
"Was he supposed to say I can't do anything until Monday? I can't report this to law enforcement?" Davis said.
According to Davis, Fader felt compelled to act immediately, because he had reported a previous sexual assault to the school in January 2013, but the university did not keep any written record of that incident.
"You've already reported one that wasn't handled properly; you're going to be safe," he said.
Fader also alleged the way the most recent case was handled, university officials made it appear he was under investigation for a sexual assault.
CBS 58 in Milwaukee reports no criminal charges were filed in this case.
UW-W said it does not comment on pending litigation.
