Freezing Rain, Snow Hit Chicago Area

(CBS) --After a very mild winter so far, now comes the January weather we are all too familiar with. What we've seen Saturday is just a taste of what's to come.

CBS 2's Chris Martinez reports In Barrington, streets and sidewalks were coated with snow and ice, with much of that now a sloshy mess.

The city of Chicago is deployed nearly 300 snow plows and salt spreaders to clear the roads Saturday morning as Chicagoans now brace for the deep freeze on the way.

According to CBS 2 meteorologist Mary Kay Kleist reports an inch of snow is expected early Sunday morning with another one to two inches of snow Sunday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to plunge to 15 degrees by Sunday evening with below zero wind chills.

For the sake of perspective what we're seeing today is nothing compared to this time last year. By the start of January 2014 Chicago had already seen more than 20 inches of snow.
