Winter Weather Advisory: Freezing Rain, Light Snow May Glaze Chicago Region

(STMW) -- Forecasters have issued a winter weather advisory because of freezing rain and light snow that could fall across the Chicago area Saturday.

The advisory affects all suburban Chicago counties in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana from midnight until noon Saturday, the National Weather Service said.

Light snow and sleet will spread into the area late Friday, then transition into freezing rain and freezing drizzle after daybreak Saturday, the weather service said. Precipitation will turn into rain in the afternoon.

Any snow accumulation will be minor, and a light glaze of ice is possible through mid-morning, the weather service said. Drivers should take caution, since slippery roads could make travel hazardous.

Temperatures will hold steady around 30 degrees overnight Friday before Saturday's highs in the mid- to upper 30s, the weather service said. Saturday night will be chillier, with lows in the upper 20s.
