Will County Sheriff: Two Students Tried To Frame Peer For School-Massacre Threat

(CBS) -- They say it was just a hoax, but two teenagers face serious charges after  allegedly trying to frame a classmate for threatening a school massacre.

The online threats targeted Lincoln-Way East High School in southwest suburban Frankfort.

CBS 2's Jeremy Ross reports on the alleged plot and the potential consequences.

Will County Sheriff Mike Kelley describes the threats posted online as an elaborate kind of cyber bullying. The threats and the plan, he says, backfired.

On Tuesday, the FBI made county police aware of online chatroom threats seemingly posted by a 15-year-old student, to shoot up and blow up the Frankfort school.

Law enforcement found no threat at the student's home. Instead, they discovered two classmates allegedly tried to frame the 15-year-old because they didn't like him. Kelley calls it a case of online bullying.

About 30 law enforcement officers helped out, Kelley says.

"I warn kids, be careful, because once you hit that send button there's no taking it back," the sheriff says.

Two students are now charged with felony disorderly conduct. They are in custody until their next court date, next week.

"They pretty much ruined their lives," says Jessica Walden, a student at Lincoln-Way East.
